From Canvas to Heart: Enriching the Art of Understanding
“Culture” by Namirah Farzana
What is art and what is its purpose? Maybe there is a definition of it, maybe there’s a well-known purpose of it which is to express emotions.. For starters, it is said that everyone is born an artist but it takes a lot of practice, effort and time to be able to remain one. This effort results in strengthening the art of understanding. The major 7 forms of art:-architecture, painting, sculpture, film, literature, music, and theater as well as other forms of art and styles of art help us understand different things.
Architecture:
To begin with, there’s architecture that helps us acknowledge
a very big part of our everyday life along with the emotions that we feel. It
makes us realize how every civilization is unique in its own way, shows us the
survival strategies of people, exhibits the creativity of humans and their
knowledge. Furthermore, it showcases us the enchanting beauty of the trees,
landscapes, climates, ecosystem etc. which are parts of the nature. A vast
amount of knowledge can be consumed while studying architecture. Shapes of
different structures can affect our sense of perception. It can evoke different
types of emotions, from admiration and inspiration to comfort and peace.
Studying architecture enhances the ability of adaptation to social contexts and changing
lifestyles. This results in a better understanding of the relationship between
human and nature. The layouts and materials used in this form of art creates a
structure that can provide us peace and joy. Buildings can be designed to
portray the significance of human life or any event or even any historical
moment through their functionality and aesthetics. To sum up, architecture shows
the essence of human existence, our relation to nature as well as the emotions
coexisting with it.
Film and Theatre:
Even though these two are major forms of art, many don’t
seem to be invested in this sort of thing. However, it’s a powerful form of art
that showcases the emotions, human nature and natural world in most unexpected
ways. Film is a direct way to portray all of these whereas theatre has multiple
ways to represent these. The purpose of this form of art can easily be shown to
others by doing opera, plays, ballet or musical theatre. Additionally, these
two art forms are used as a gateway to portray social phenomenon, social
issues, culture of different types of people or region. Moreover, these also allow artists to spread emotional connections, empathy and awareness. Film and theatre have the power to question
and criticize any social norm which can be used to challenge it as well. In
summary, these forms of art give a powerful meaning to human life and help us to explore
the nature as we get portrayals of diverse perspectives, allowing us to enhance
our knowledge and the ability to question.
Literature and Music:
Also, there’s
literature and music to help us learn about different types of people, about
their life and emotions. Writers write novel or stories, compose music with the
help of their imagination or real-life experiences. Then there’s also other
writers who get inspirations from fellow writer’s or composer’s work. Thus,
these art forms help people understand different point of views on life,
help them feel the emotions others have felt or insights of them through their
art. They help us visualize many things in life and broadens one’s perception of
life. Even a fantasy can be easily visualized
through these forms of art. Both literature and music have the ability to elicit
strong emotions and provide ridding experiences. Film and theatre hold the power to make
people visualize the beauty of nature and broaden the perception of life by
making a play or video. These can be also done by composing songs or by writing
down the words that describe these feelings with utmost accuracy. Surprisingly,
a song-writer or a literary can easily make all of this happen just with their
words. This is art which is to make people understand things with anything and
everything.
Similar to these 7 forms of art, every little detail about every type of art helps us have a better understanding of people, life, nature and emotions. Thus, it’s very easy to see that everything in this universe is corelated with each other. Obviously, art isn’t limited to just artists rather it’s open to all. Altogether, every form of art has the power to make people believe the unbelievable, feel emotions that they think they’re unable to feel as Pablo Picasso said, “Art is a lie that makes us realize truth.” For this reason, art carries weight in our life as philosopher Aristotle once said, “Art not only imitates nature, but it also completes its deficiency.”
