Stress and Stress Relief

 How do we get stressed?

Stress is a common ailment on the moods of many people, as they often suffer from mental strain over work, school, or even just dealing with the people in their lives. All people can go through this, and a lot of us may even suffer from stress on a daily basis due to pent-up issues many people may not know how to properly deal with for fear of hurting other people, adhering to moral values, or not creating a burden on others. However, allowing it to build up is only more unhealthy as in the long run, it may pile up and result in burnout, hampering even our day to day lives and both physical and mental health.

What are the adverse effects of stress?

Primarily, a major weight of stress on our minds can lead to strained daily lives, productivity, and even social skills. We may unwittingly create distance between ourselves and our friends and family, hurting our peers and maybe leaving permanent damage on such relationships. As social creatures, humans need to make sure they have healthy social lives. Furthermore, any work we may try to do under pressure from stress may come out compromised, and many people find themselves losing appetite or sleep over deep tension, which ends up adversely affecting their physical health as well.

Overcoming Stress

While stress comes about easily, it is also not extremely difficult to relieve ourselves of it. For starters, physical exercise is a very good outlet for stress. Sports such as football, basketball, and swimming allow us to stimulate ourselves and serves as a way of releasing toxic thoughts and pent-up anger by making our body work more. Martial arts such as Tai Chi pictured above have also been developed with the express purpose of practicing calming movement and behavior. Many also suggest meditation, which is yet another form of calming and relaxing practice that can help us release our strain naturally and with a healthy outlet. Self-care is yet another important facet, as it has been found by researchers that there exists a strong correlation between an individual's organization of oneself and their mental health and productivity. Eating healthy, keeping clean, and sleeping well on a healthy schedule are all vital to leading a healthy and happy lifestyle. It is also important to stay socially active and maintain frequent contact with our family and friends, and not be afraid to confide in them of our struggles, as they should respond with empathy and understanding rather than seeing a burden. Maintaining a strong social life gives us important human interaction and provides those who are especially struggling a shoulder to cry on. For those with extreme cases of stress, it is also completely on the table to attend therapy sessions as it may provide them with pointers as to how they can better organize themselves and minimize stress, as well as enabling them a platform to communicate with a professional expert.

My final thoughts and opinions

There is obviously no such thing as a stress-free life for anyone. All people have some level of tension or some level of stress in their lives, it simply varies depending on their own mental state and the size of the problem. Humans as a species are imperfect, and will therefore not always be able to act efficiently or rationally in a stressful situation. However, it is still something we have the resources to deal with, and anyone can overcome stress by taking the necessary measures and act responsibly so as not to allow it to grow too far and damage our own daily functioning, productivity, and social connections.
